The
Lodrane Family is comprised of prescription
products formulated to treat allergies and the symptoms of
allergies. Each Lodrane product contains a highly effective
antihistamine, which has a low potential for drowsiness in
most patients. Lodrane products are formulated to contain
minimal inactive ingredients so that such does not potentially
interfere with overall therapy or other conditions which the
patient may experience. Most Lodrane products are sugar free,
alcohol free, and dye free. Please refer to each product listing
for specific information.

Lodrane 24 is an extended release antihistamine formulation
which provides around the clock coverage with a single daily
dose of one or two capsules. Lodrane 24 D contains
the same antihistamine in combination with a nasal decongestant
for those patients which may require addition relief from
sinus and/or nasal congestion. The once-a-day dosing schedule
for both products greatly enhances patient convenience and
compliance.
Both Lodrane 24 and Lodrane 24 D also offer the flexibility
to reduce the total amount of antihistamine or antihistamine/decongestant
which the patient requires to achieve the desired results
while still maintaining a once daily dosing schedule. Patients
often find that when allergy symptoms begin to subside or
during periods of lower allergen levels, they can take a single
capsule daily and continue to remain allergy free. When pollen
and allergens are at high levels, the patient may need to
return to a dosage schedule of two capsules daily until these
levels subside. This flexibility helps the patient maintain
a sufficient level of antihistamine coverage at the lowest
possible dose. This results not only in effective therapy
with a potential for fewer side effects, but is also a very
cost effective approach.

Lodrane D Suspension is an antihistamine-decongestant combination
which provides 12 hours of relief. This formulation is generally
used in children or other individuals who may have difficulty
swallowing tablets or capsules. Lodrane D Suspension is a
concentrated formulation which allows for small volume doses
in children, thus making it easier to dose the child who may
resist taking medications. The twice daily dosing schedule
of Lodrane D Suspension often negates the need to give medication
away from home while the child is at school or day care. Lodrane
D Suspension is sugar and alcohol free.

Adults and Children over 12 years:
One or two capsules once daily. Children 6-12 years: One capsule
once daily. Dosages should be taken at approximately the same
time each day.

Adults and Children over 12 years: One teaspoon
(5 mL) every 12 hours, not to exceed 2 doses in 24 hours.
Children 6-12 years: One-half teaspoon (2.5 mL) every
12 hours, not to exceed 2 doses in 24 hours. Children 2-6
years: One-fourth teaspoon (1.25 mL) every 12 hours, not to
exceed 2 doses in 24 hours.

During periods of heavy pollen or the presence of other similar
allergens, the patient may experience more severe allergic
symptoms, i.e. more marked congestion, runny nose, and/or
itchy eyes. During these periods the patient may require the
maximum recommended dosages to achieve the desired relief.
This may be particularly true when the patient first initiates
therapy. When these symptoms or the presence of allergens
subside, the patient may be able to reduce the dosage and
continue to achieve desired results. Lodrane 24 and Lodrane
24D are formulated to allow you to reduce the dose from two
capsules to one capsule every 24 hours.
Reducing the dose of the drug not only makes the patients
prescription last longer, but it can also reduce the potential
for, or severity of, potential side effects. Patients should
consult their physician if they have additional questions
regarding whether a reduction of dosage may be beneficial.
